Cheshire East Elections 1 May 2008 - issues

- in Macclesfield and Crewe

LOCAL DEMOCRACY

The introduction of a unitary council for Cheshire East sees one single elected local authority taking responsibility for public services in our area, instead of a confusing division of labour between Borough and County. This will be both accessible and accountable - decisions will be made locally, not forty miles away in Chester, by councillors elected to represent our own communities.

We will expect Cheshire East to work in partnership with town and parish councils, where they already exist, and other community groups. We will campaign for a town council for Macclesfield (and for Wilmslow and Crewe, other Cheshire East towns that do not currently have them) to allow more democratic local decision-making and consultation on issues specific to the town.

MAKE ONE VOTE GREEN!

In this election, you have three votes, as each ward elects three councillors to Cheshire East. This is your opportunity to make sure that there is a Green voice in local government. Even if you wish to support your present Borough Councillors on May 1st, if you live in Macclesfield Town Ward, Macclesfield West Ward, or Macclesfield Forest Ward, you can still cast your third vote for your Green Party Candidate.

Town Hall, Macclesfield
